Integrative Approach

•    I work with individuals using a psychodynamic framework, incorporating developmental, systems, and relational awareness, as well as integrating cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness techniques when they support the work. Each person is different, and I tailor  my therapeutic approach to each client’s needs and goals.

•    I offer individuals and couples therapy to adults of all ages for depression, anxiety, conflict avoidance, relational difficulties, self-esteem, and life transitions and adjustments. I am curious about what motivates us and how/why we are driven to move in specific directions in our lives. I appreciate the amazing variety in how individuals grow and develop.

Understanding both Past and Present

I believe that being open to learning about the past — and how we’ve evolved over time — can help us discover new ways of being in the present. This process can reduce emotional suffering while opening space for greater creativity, flexibility, and self-understanding.

Building Awareness, Strength, and Curiosity

In our work together, I aim to help individuals and couples:
•    Recognize and appreciate their emotions
•    Identify and build upon strengths
•    Become curious about patterns that may feel stuck or blocked
Rather than judging these experiences, we work to explore them with curiosity, compassion and openness.

Making Meaning and Finding Connections

I aim to help each person find and support their own unique place in the world — fostering a sense of meaning, connection, and authenticity that extends beyond the therapy room.

Who I Work With

In my practice, I work with individual adults and couples, including LGBTQ+ individuals and people in consensual non-monogamous relationships. I strive to offer a space that is affirming, inclusive, and grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience

.

At the heart of my work are curiosity and respect. I aim to help clients develop an open-minded, compassionate approach to self-exploration, creating room for insight, growth, and meaningful change.

About

About My Approach

Barbara Kellman, LICSW, JD

By being open to learning about the past and how we evolved, I believe we can find different ways of being in the present that alleviate suffering and support creativity and openness. I try to help clients see and appreciate their own emotions and strengths and to be curious about how they might be stuck or blocked. I strive to help each person seek and support their unique place in the world.

I’ve trained at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute (BPSI) and the Psychodynamic Couple & Family Institute of New England (PCFINE). At BPSI I completed coursework for the Advanced Therapy Program. At PCFINE I completed a two-year course in Couples Therapy. I am presently a Candidate in Psychoanalytic Training at BPSI.
